IRCTC alert: Railways’ e-ticketing partner warns about fraud emails

New Delhi: The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the exclusive e-ticketing partner of the Indian Railways, manages multiple things at a time including ticket booking, cancellation, tatkal tickets, refunds, TDR request, hotel booking, flight ticket booking, tourism packages. There are umpteen authorised, as well as unauthorised agents through which a major proportion of Railway ticket reservation happens.

People should always approach to the authorised ticket booking agents. If the personal details of a user get leaked then the chances of it getting misused increases. To aware the people using the e-ticket booking facilities and all other services offered by IRCTC, the ticket booking website has issued several guidelines on dealing with the fraudsters. IRCTC is committed to providing a safe online experience to its users following which it has cautioned the users about malicious emails in circulation.

According to IRCTC, some fraudsters send emails which appear to be from an IRCTC email id, with malicious attachments, which may be a virus. “Any emails sent from IRCTC to its users, will not have any attachments, and will be signed by an individual by name. Never open attachments from unknown sources. For your safety, it is advised to delete any such suspicious mails,” IRCTC said.

The train tickets should be reserved from the Railway reservation offices, IRCTC e-ticket website, or authorised travel agencies only. As Railways has fixed 120 days as the advance reservation period (ARP) for all classes and all trains excluding the day of departure of the train, therefore, there is no possibility of getting a confirmed ticket for an upcoming period of more than 120 days.

There are certain train ticket booking rules which are prescribed for uniformity among the passengers travelling by trains. IRCTC provides the facility of ‘tatkal’ under which a user can book a limited number of tickets just a day before the journey from the IRCTC website, www.irctc.co.in.
