Microsoft to roll out Windows 11 from THIS date, Windows 10 users to get the update for free

Microsoft will release Windows 11 to supported PCs on October 5, nearly four months after its announcement of the same. The tech giant said that Windows 11 will come as a free upgrade for Windows 10 users in eligible PCs while the priority will be for the supported devices that have been launched recently.

The Windows 11 rollout will be in a phased manner as older systems will get it after the latest devices in the international markets would have received the update, Microsoft said in a new blog. The rollout will ‘focus on quality,’ as Microsoft expects to complete the Windows 11 upgrade to all eligible devices by the mid-next year.

Windows 11 has a completely redesigned layout as the position for the Start menu, new icons, themes have changed, with softer visuals from earlier. According to Microsoft, Windows 11 also has several performance improvements as compared to Windows 10 and the new update will have more power efficiency while 40 percent smaller updates will run in the background.

The highlight of Windows 11 is that the inclusion of Android apps on the Windows OS, which will “start with a preview for Windows Insiders over the coming months.”

How to check Windows 11 eligibility for your system

Windows 10 PCs, which will be eligible, will be notified through Windows update when the update will be available, Microsoft said. Users can also check for the update by to Settings > Windows Update then selecting ‘Check for updates’.

If a PC is not eligible for Windows 11, Microsoft has said that it will support Windows 10 till October 14, 2025.
