The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation had launched three new mobile-based services a few months back, for EPF members to access their PF account details easily. According to Bandaru Dattatreya, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment (Independent Charge) who launched the services, nearly 3.54 crores subscribers, 49.22 lakh pensioners and 6.1 lakh employers will benefit from these facilities.
The services include:
1. SMS-based Universal Account Number Activation:
The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique 12 digit number allocated to every EPF member by the employer. For a long time, customers had to visit uanmembers.epfoservices.in and activate their UAN. But now they can simply send an SMS to 7738299899 from their registered mobile numbers and the UAN will be activated. This service is an extension of an already existing SMS service in which members who have an activated UAN can get details such as PF balance etc. by sending an SMS to the same number. This service is helpful for those who do not have easy access to computers or smartphones.
For UAN activation, a customer has to type “EPFOHO UAN <LAN>” and send it to 7738299899. LAN stands for the first three letter of the language you want the SMS in. The available languages include English, Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Bengali.
2. Mobile Application:
The mobile app was launched on September 15. It can be downloaded from the official EPFO website, after which the users need to enter their UAN number and registered mobile number. They can get all details of their EPF account on the app itself. Pensioners can use it for obtaining pension disbursement details and employees can find information about their monthly credits through the passbook.
3. Missed Call Service:
The missed call service started on November 13 last year. All that customers have to do is give a missed call on 01122901406 from their registered mobile numbers. They will get an SMS alert with their total PF balance instantly.
