New Delhi: The Indian Railways (IR) has now installed bottle crushers at select stations and has launched an initiative to offer Paytm cash back to people who help in the transporter in recycling water bottles, reported The Economic Times. Launched on the eve of World Environment Day, the railways have now installed bottle crushers at the Vadodara railway station to help people in the process of recycling.
Under the scheme, passengers who help in the bottle recycling process will get Paytm cashback of Rs 5. For each bottle that is dropped in the installed crusher, a person will get a cashback after entering his/her mobile number. Commenting on the development, the Railways said that it is part of a measure to reduce plastic waste.
After dropping the bottle, passengers are required to enter their mobile numbers, following which they will get a cash incentive of Rs 5 in their Paytm account. Other than that, the Indian Railways is also using biodegradable plates in lieu of plastic plates to help reduce pollution.
The amount offered in the one-of-a-kind initiative might seem insignificant but will significantly help in reducing plastic waste. The Railways is currently floating a slew of unique measures to help promote cleanliness apart from improving existing facilitates to make it more customer-friendly.
Over the past few months, the Indian Railways has announced a slew of projects to match its services – both stations and in-train – with airlines. Besides, several railway stations are being revamped with state-of-the-art features to make them attractive and more appealing to passengers.
