Whether it’s your telecom operator, broadband operator or your DTH operator, there’s a trend among them to offer a free subscription to OTT platforms. Airtel gives away Netflix subscription plans along with Amazon Prime Video with its broadband plans and Tata Sky is now looking to join the bandwagon with its Binge service. However, it’s not giving away a Netflix subscription. Tata Sky is sticking to Amazon Prime Video subscription, given that it’s Binge relies heavily on the Amazon’s hardware.
Spotted by Telecom Talk first, Tata Sky is now offering a limited period offer for new subscribers to its Binge service. For those in the unknown, Binge is Tata Sky’s service to let its subscribers catch up with all the content from third-party OTT platforms with a single device. Tata Sky is now luring its subscribers by offering three months of free subscription to Amazon Prime Video. Once the three month period is over, customers will have to pay for the subscription.
An Amazon Prime subscription costs Rs 129 per month and it also gives benefits of Prime membership while shopping on Amazon. The subscription also throws Amazon Prime Music into the mix. For those who want to save some more, Amazon offers an annual subscription plan of Rs 999 and it offers all of the same benefits.
The Binge service from Tata Sky is available to its subscribers at a monthly rental of Rs 249. As part of the membership, subscribers will be able to enjoy content from Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Sun NXT, Zee5 and others. Netflix isn’t part of the package. The monthly charge for the service will be charged as part of the Tata Sky billing.
Subscribers will also be given an Amazon Fire TV Stick Tata Sky Edition and there’s no charge for this device. However, once the Binge membership expires, the device will be collected back. The Binge stick will need a Wi-Fi connection for streaming content from these platforms.
However, rival Airtel only offers a free subscription to these platforms and users need to have their own devices for streaming content of these platforms.
